What Robert Baden-Powell Intended

As a proud father of two Eagle Scouts, I know first hand about the program that serves both individuals and the community. I was a Cub Scout and Explorer as a youth and an adult leader for many years while my two sons journeyed along the Scout Trail from Tiger to Eagle. One of the things that encouraged me to volunteer was the issue of Youth Protection, especially for my own children. One way to ensure that was to become an adult leader, get all of the necessary training, which is extensive and extremely worthwhile. In the end, I learned for myself, all that Scouting has to offer. Scouting is needed more now than ever and a renewed faith in the program needs to be restored as quickly as possible. The sensationalism that exists in the news is unfortunate and detrimental. We need to move forward, understanding the shortcomings of the past and the positive solutions for the future and “learn our lessons” about what should never ever happen again. It’s up to all of us, not just Scouts and Scouters, but the American people to help bring this institution back to what Baden Powell had intended it to be, a program for life. God Bless the Scouts of America.
