A Volunteer’s Perspective

I enjoyed volunteering and working with the youth immensely for 12 years. BSA has a set of guidelines developed over the last 100 years which provide a good starting point to resolve issues with the adults. But trying to encourage using or enforcing them is also the most challenging/frustrating in probably any volunteer organization. Each district and chartered organization need to finds ways to focus on a quality program, resolve issues fairly, and be willing to make changes where necessary. Quality first, quantity (number of scouts) will naturally follow. I’ve always felt the program provided a good moral foundation and expect BSA to come back stronger than ever.
