I Am Who I Am Because of Scouting

I was a Scout in Brooklyn, NY. From a young age, I became interested in medicine when I studied First Aid. I progressed through Scouting to Life Scout, and I joined a Medical Explorer Post at 16. That’s where I met my wife. I wound up joining the Army at age 19 and becoming a Medic, and I stayed in the Army Reserve for a total of 31 years. Being a medic got me into an EMT program on the civilian side, which got me into a Paramedic program, which ultimately got me into a Physician Assistant program, where I worked in Orthopaedic Surgery for 36 years. So, I guess I can trace everything I’ve done in my life back to Scouting, and I am proud to say that (in the words of Rex Tillerson), “I am who I am because I was a Scout”. I am happy to continue working as a Scouting volunteer, and paying it forward at every opportunity so that young men and women can experience the satisfaction and moderate success that I have experienced because of my involvement in this great movement.
