Leadership and Character Building

For 13 years I was associated with the Council’s Junior Leadership course, Sogus. Hundreds of Scouts and staff went through the course. I have kept in touch with many of the staff who share their testimonies of how this course changed their life and/or gave them the leadership skills they use today in their profession. Many of these young men are now married and have their own families. They are volunteers and have their kids are involved in Scouting. Many of them have their parents still involve in Scouting going back for generations. I don’t think we will really ever know the profound effluence Scouting has had on the youth of this course and the nation. There is no program, athletic, cultural or otherwise that can have the great influence on our youth as Scouting does. I am so grateful for the vision and insight of Lord Robert Baden-Powell, founder of Scouting..
